It is that time of year again… The annual perennial sale at Blackhorse Farms in Coxsackie, NY is here! After a near complete overhaul of our yard last year during the annual sale, we decided to tackle our last remaining “empty” space. To tie the front yard together and improve the curb appeal, we decidedContinue reading “Instant Garden Take Two”

April Gardening
Felt great to finally have some warm weather and get some work done in the garden This year Elisabeth did alot of research and mapped out where she wants to plant everything. We bought some organic soil and organic compost including lobster compost. Our soil was not great so we are hoping this helps. WeContinue reading “April Gardening”
Spring is in the Air
Springtime is officially here. As the ground thaws and temperatures start to rise, the best parts of spring are within reach – flowers blooming, visits to local nurseries, and planting (although this may still be a month away). Over the past two weeks, we have enjoyed sporadic afternoons outside – getting the various gardens andContinue reading “Spring is in the Air”
Deep Rooted Family History from Wheeler Brothers Foundry on Display
The crucibles (aka. planters/ pots) came from the Wheeler family foundry which my dad had until the 1990’s. They were used to melt brass and bronze. Crucibles were poured by hand and weighed hundreds of pounds. They made plaques and many other items. My dad also made bronze horseshoes for President Bush. Metal was pouredContinue reading “Deep Rooted Family History from Wheeler Brothers Foundry on Display”

Spring 2020 The quarantine meant we had time for home improvements; first off was backyard projects! Since we have been home for a considerable amount of time we decided that we would put some love into our yard (especially since there were no vacations in our foreseeable future). This project was completed in April, butContinue reading “Repurposing Unused Windows for a One-of-a-Kind DIY Greenhouse”
Raised Flower Beds
For Mother’s Day 2017, Rick built raised flower beds enclosed to protect our flowers and vegetables from the variety of wildlife in our backyard. Due to our love for industrial style and the need to protect the garden, we decided on corrugated raised fencing. I am sure by now that you can tell we loveContinue reading “Raised Flower Beds”
Sunday Morning Garlic Scape Pesto
As usual, the Sunday morning ritual in our household is to work in the kitchen for the first few hours. Today, Emily began by getting together the baby-back ribs and pasta salad for dinner and then worked with Elisabeth to make one of our favorite sauces that we freeze to use year round: Garlic ScapeContinue reading “Sunday Morning Garlic Scape Pesto”
